Seasonal Color Analysis in Portland
Ever put on a color and immediately thought, “Why do I look so good today?”
About Seasonal Color Analysis
Colors you wear can make your skin appear brighter, bring out your eyes, complement your hair and make your entire appearance feel more balanced.
Other colors can leave you looking washed out, dull or just a little off, even when you can’t quite figure out why.
Seasonal Color Analysis takes the guesswork out of it. During your personalized color analysis with Shonna at DAELA Portland, we’ll look at your natural coloring, skin tone and undertone, hair and eyes to determine the colors that work best with you.
No more standing in a dressing room wondering, “Does this color look good on me?”

Seasonal Color Analysis FAQs
What is seasonal color analysis?
You’ve probably heard people described as a Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter.
Seasonal color analysis uses color theory to identify the tones that naturally complement your skin, hair and eyes. Modern color analysis goes further than simply assigning one of four
seasons.
We look at characteristics including whether your coloring is warm or cool, light or deep, soft or bright, and how different colors interact with your overall features.
Your analysis helps answer questions like:
- What colors look best on me?
- What is my skin undertone?
- Am I warm, cool or neutral?
- What clothing colors flatter me?
- What lipstick and makeup colors should I choose?
- Should I wear gold or silver jewelry?
- What hair colors work with my skin tone?
Instead of following trends or buying colors because they looked amazing on someone else, you'll understand what works with your coloring.
About Shonna
Certified Color Analyst + DAELA Master Paramedical Tattoo Artist
If you've been to DAELA before, you probably know Shonna for something completely different: skin.
Shonna is DAELA's Master Paramedical Tattoo Artist and trainer specializing in scar camouflage, stretch mark camouflage and 3D areola restoration.
Color theory is already a huge part of her work.
As a scar camouflage artist, Shonna works extensively with skin tone, undertone and custom color formulation. Her job is quite literally to study skin, understand the color she sees and determine how different pigments will interact with it.
Her interest in color eventually expanded beyond tattooing and into something she had been fascinated by for years:
Why do certain colors make someone absolutely glow while others just don't work?
Seasonal Color Analysis brings those two worlds together — Shonna's years of hands-on experience studying skin and color with professional training in personal color analysis.
And if you know Shonna, you know this appointment won't be stuffy.
Expect a lot of color, a little science, probably some laughing and one very useful answer to the question:
“Okay... so what colors actually look good on me?”

How do I know what colors look best on me?
That's exactly what your appointment is designed to determine. Instead of relying on general rules or online quizzes, we'll compare colors with your individual coloring and identify the shades and color characteristics that work best with your skin, hair and eyes.
How do I know my skin tone or undertone?
Skin tone describes the visible depth of your complexion, while undertone refers to the underlying color characteristics of your skin. Undertones can lean warm, cool or somewhere in between. During your color analysis, we'll evaluate your coloring as a whole rather than relying on a single "vein test" or online quiz.
Will I find out what season I am?
Yes. Your analysis will help identify your seasonal color family and, more importantly, teach you the color characteristics that make that palette work for you.
What should I wear to my color analysis appointment?
Wear whatever you'd like, just don't wear earrings! For the analysis itself, we'll want to see your natural coloring as clearly as possible. Arriving with minimal or no makeup is helpful so makeup doesn't influence how colors appear against your skin.
Can color analysis help me choose makeup?
Yes! Understanding your coloring can make choosing lipstick, blush and other makeup shades much easier. Your appointment includes guidance on lip and makeup colors that complement your natural coloring.
Can color analysis help me choose a hair color?
Absolutely. We'll discuss whether warm, cool, light, deep, soft or more vibrant hair colors tend to complement your natural coloring so you'll have better direction the next time you visit your hairstylist.
Is seasonal color analysis only for women?
Not at all. Color theory doesn't care who you are. Anyone who wears clothes can benefit from understanding which colors work best with their natural coloring.
Will you tell me I can't wear certain colors?
Nope.
If you love a color, wear it.
Color analysis isn't about giving you rules. It's about giving you information. Once you understand your coloring, you can make more intentional choices — or completely ignore everything we talked about and wear neon green.
We're not the color police.
